The 8GB Pen Drive
last week I went to the gray market to look what is in, nowadays.(I Live in New Delhi, India),I saw some pen drives,Written 8GB on Them, when I asked about the price, he told me Rs 1500($38).
With some bargaining, He came down to Rs 1100($28).
I gave him Rs 1000 ($25.5) and took that pendrive. It was Transcend Brand.
Now, wonder why was he so eager to give a 8GB Transcend Pendrive to me?
Because it was a Fake Pendrive.
See, this is the thing about Gray Market.
I mean the Original 2GB Transcend Pendrive costs Rs 800($20) in India,If you buy it from an authorized shop.
Many people have become the victims of this Fake Flash Memory Drives.
But I was not the Victim, I knew it already that i was not the original one, although it looks exactly like the original one.
All i wanted to Compare Between the Original and the Fake,
As both can be Differentiated very easily.by carrying them in hands,
But when i used the Fake pen drive to store a Movie of 4 GB, it took 3 hours to completely transfer the movie to the pendrive, and when I opened the pendrive on the other computer, the size of the file was 400 MB and there was no other file and the properties still were saying that there is a data of 4 GB in the Drive,And when i deleted the 400MB file, Still its was 4 GB.
Moral of the Story-What’s the use of Unlimited Insecure Pendrive.Better Be Safe Buy Original.

Couple of weeks ago, I went to Mercy Electronics in Chennai and bought the Transcend Jeftlash V30 Pen drive for Rs.1650/-
I had always believed that Mercy electronics sold only the original goods. So, I bought this drive without any suspicion. They gave me the drive in a sealed, very original looking cover. They even gave me the bill with one year warranty!
I took it home and put it in my PC. I should say, there wasn’t one difference between the original ones and the one that I had. It was unbelievably believable! My PC showed that it had 8GB and I was a happy kid. Then when I formatted it just for fun, the size came down to 4GB (meaning the PC showed that the size of the drive was 4GB)!! Then I tried to move a file into it. The the file transfer after just 1.1GB got copied!!
I went back to Mercy and gave it to them. They were shocked! They told me that they’ll replace it from the manufacturer and give it to me in two days. However, after one week, I went back there and they gave me a new piece. This one was the Jeftlash v60. I didn’t mind. I took it home and found that it was just another fake. There couldn’t be two manufacturer malfunctioning in a row! But, the guys in the shop told me that there was something wrong with my PC. I just told them that I had a PC and a laptop and the drive didn’t have 8GB in either of them…plus, I have other drives that work just fine. They told me that they had sold about a hundred of them and I was the only person reporting faults. Anyway, they took it for replacement too.
After another week, I went there and they gave me another Jetflash v60. I just couldn’t take it anymore because I knew that this one wasn’t gonna work either because all of the drives in their stock were fakes! I was frustrated. They were equally frustrated too because they were thinking that the drives were original and that I was the only person complaining. They even told me that these weren’t really replacements and that they were giving me new pieces from the stock because the ones given for replacement to the dealer hadn’t returned yet.
I didn’t take the second replacement. I asked for a refund. They told me that they don’t give refunds. They told me that the only options for me were to either take the Jetflash v60 or take a 8GB stick of another brand. I said I’ll take another brand. The guy called up someone and told me that Kingston 8GB will arrive in a couple of days and that I can take them.
I should be getting a fake Kingston 8GB drive this monday. If everything is as I suppose it to be, it should be another fake. I’m gonna take my laptop there on monday and prove it to them that its a fake. If I fail, I’ll be the happy one. It’s probably a fake because the kingston drive is Rs.8k and the one that I bought is 1.6k.
The moral of the story is : Buy “original” drives from “authorized” dealers!!!
Ha ha ha ha… Very funny. I liked it a lot.
